Overview

The Serengeti,
Unhurried

In the far western reaches of the Serengeti National Park, remote and uncrowded, this lodge rests on the banks of a Grumeti River tributary sharing its rhythm with resident hippo.

Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge occupies one of the quietest, most pristine corners of the Serengeti — a stretch of riverine forest so little-visited that resident black-and-white colobus monkeys, found nowhere else in the park, thrive largely undisturbed. Twice-daily game drives regularly encounter large lion prides and hyena clans, while every June and July, the Great Migration itself passes directly through, with wildebeest and zebra risking the jaws of the Grumeti's outsized Nile crocodiles at the river crossings. The lodge's design nods to the circular form of a traditional Maasai manyatta, finished in Kitenge fabrics and the grey tones of hippo hide.

Location

The Far Western
Serengeti

&Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge sits on a tributary of the Grumeti River in the remote western reaches of Serengeti National Park.

  • The lodge’s remote location means very few other properties operate in this pristine section of the park.
  • Guests should expect hippo activity through the night — rooms nearest the river (9 and 10) offer the clearest water views.
  • The Great Migration typically crosses the Grumeti River in June and July, drawing large crocodiles to the crossing points.
  • The lodge is family-friendly and welcomes all ages, with interactive children’s activities available.
