Overview
A Medina, Built for Guests
Commissioned by King Mohammed VI and completed in 2010 after three and a half years of round-the-clock craftsmanship, Royal Mansour was conceived not as a hotel but as a monument to Moroccan artisanship.
Rather than a conventional arrangement of rooms and suites, the property's 13 acres hold 53 individually built riads — multi-storey private villas arranged along winding pathways designed to mirror a real medina, complete with gardens, fountains and hidden nooks. Every riad is furnished with zellige tilework, carved cedar and painted ceilings, the work of over 1,200 of Morocco's finest artisans. A network of underground tunnels lets staff move unseen between riads, delivering anything from fresh mint tea to a full dinner without ever intruding on a guest's privacy — a level of discretion that has made Royal Mansour one of the most decorated hotels in the world.
Part of a growing royal collection. Royal Mansour has since expanded to Tamuda Bay on Morocco's Mediterranean coast and to a restored Art Deco building in Casablanca, both continuing the brand's private-riad concept — this page covers the original Marrakech property.
