Founded beside Lake Zurich in 1844 and still owned and run by the Baur family, in its own private park.

Overview
Eighteen Forty-Four
A hundred and nineteen rooms and eighteen suites, in a private park on the lake.
The Baur au Lac has been owned by the same family since it was founded in 1844, and is now in its seventh generation of management — which in a business this exposed to fashion is close to unheard of. The setting does most of the work: the hotel sits in its own landscaped park at the point where the Schänzengraben canal meets the lake, a few minutes from the Bahnhofstrasse but entirely out of it. There are 119 rooms and 18 suites, individually designed, looking out over the park, the city, or — in the higher categories — the lake and the Alps behind it.
Ask about the park side. The private park is the hotel’s real luxury in a city this dense. Park- and lake-facing rooms are a different stay from the city-facing ones.
