Overview

Where Elephants
Walk Through Camp

Set beneath doum palms on the Ewaso Nyiro River, with a reputation for elephant herds passing directly between the tents.

Elephant Bedroom Camp sits directly on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River inside Samburu National Reserve, shaded by a grove of doum palms. The camp takes its name from its most famous quirk: resident elephant herds regularly walk straight through camp on their way to and from the river, sometimes passing within feet of the open-fronted tents. Samburu's dry, rugged landscape supports several species found nowhere else in Kenya's more southern parks — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and Beisa oryx among them — giving the reserve a distinctly different character from the Mara or Amboseli.
