Overview
A Private Reserve on the Serengeti’s Edge
Elevated atop an ancient granite outcrop within its own protected wildlife area, Mwiba Lodge stands sentinel over the Arugusinyai River gorge and the wooded wilderness beyond.
Privatised in 2009 for the benefit of wildlife and sustainable tourism, the Mwiba Wildlife Reserve spans roughly 240km² on the southern edge of the greater Serengeti ecosystem, bordered by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the east and Maswa Game Reserve to the west. Over 30 freshwater springs sustain elephant, kudu and lion year-round, and the private status of the reserve means guests explore with their own vehicle, guide and schedule — free of the rules that bind the national park next door. Ten suites, raised on wooden walkways among the boulders, look out over the rocky gorge below.

Location
Southern Edge of the Serengeti
Mwiba Lodge sits within the private Mwiba Wildlife Reserve on the southern boundary of the Serengeti ecosystem, between the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Maswa Game Reserve.
The reserve’s private status means national park rules do not apply — night drives, off-road driving and walking are all possible.
During the December–April calving season, the reserve gives front-row access to the wildebeest migration’s most dramatic chapter.
The lodge is closed annually from 1 April to 15 May, during the height of the long rains.
Children of all ages are welcome; those aged 16 and over occupy their own room at adult rates.
Fly
Daily flights from Arusha Airport land at Mwiba’s private airstrip, a 15-minute drive from the lodge.

A 2-3.5 hour game drive connects Mwiba with Ndutu Airstrip or the Ngorongoro Crater, transfers arranged by the lodge.
Arrive
A helipad is also available by prior arrangement for guests seeking a faster transfer.
