Safari Lodge — Okavango Delta

Built Like
a Pangolin

Twelve suites shaped like the nests of golden weaver birds, wrapped around a curl of shingled wood modelled on one of Africa's rarest and most elusive mammals.

Overview

A Pangolin,
at Rest

Completely rebuilt in 2014, Sandibe's main lodge takes the shape of a giant pangolin curled beneath the forest canopy — copper-toned, glassless, and unlike any other lodge in the Delta.

Sandibe sits on the edge of a waterway deep in the Okavango Delta, on a private concession with exclusive traversing rights over 22,500 hectares of wildlife-rich land bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. Shingled wooden roofs mimic the pangolin's overlapping scales, while the lodge's twelve suites — raised above the papyrus-lined banks — are built to resemble the woven nests of golden weaver birds. Roughly 70% of Sandibe's energy needs come from solar power, generated by the first solar plant of its kind in the Delta, in keeping with the lodge's broader commitment to a light environmental footprint.

An &Beyond flagship lodge. Sandibe is one of &Beyond's signature Botswana properties, known throughout the safari industry for its organic, sculptural architecture as much as its wildlife.

Bordering
Moremi

Sandibe's private concession sits on the edge of a Delta waterway, with exclusive traversing rights over land that directly borders the Moremi Game Reserve.

  • Exclusive traversing rights over 22,500 hectares (55,600 acres) bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.
  • A low-density safari environment, with wildlife encounters uncrowded by other operators' vehicles.
  • Home to large elephant herds, lion prides, leopard and regular sightings of African wild dog.
  • Reachable only by light aircraft into the nearby Chitabe airstrip, keeping the concession genuinely remote.

Combine

Design & Nature

Architecture Worth the Trip Alone

Sandibe's pangolin-inspired design has made it one of the most photographed lodge exteriors in the Okavango Delta — as much a destination as the wildlife around it.
