Between the
Granite Giants

Fifteen chalets hidden among 700-million-year-old granite boulders at the foot of the Spitzkoppe — Namibia's own Matterhorn, rising 700 metres from the surrounding plains.

Overview

The Matterhorn
of Namibia

Rising nearly 700 metres above the surrounding plains, the Spitzkoppe's bald granite peaks are among the oldest rock formations on Earth — and Spitzkoppen Lodge sits hidden right among them.

Built on the northern edge of the Spitzkoppe inselberg between Usakos and Swakopmund, Spitzkoppen Lodge nestles fifteen chalets directly among the granite boulders that give the site its name. Elevated, wheelchair-friendly walkways link every building, engineered with minimal concrete and dismantlable materials so the land can regenerate should the lodge ever be removed. Electricity runs in via a 5km underground cable to protect the surrounding archaeological terrain, and water is drawn from boreholes and purified on site. The result is a lodge that feels barely there at all — just granite, sand, and sky.

Location

Granite Peaks in
the Namib’s Folds

Spitzkoppen Lodge sits roughly 120km east of Swakopmund and 50km from Usakos — a natural stopover between the coast and Damaraland.

  • The Spitzkoppe's highest point reaches 1,784m above sea level, towering some 700m over the surrounding gravel plains.
  • The lodge is reserved exclusively for its own guests — day visitors and campers are not permitted on the property.
  • A 20-minute drive from the main road brings guests hidden into the rocks, out of sight until the very last turn.
  • The Spitzkoppe Conservation Area receives just 50mm of rain a year, one of the driest — and clearest-skied — corners of Namibia.
