Overview
Ocean on Three Sides
Built on the site of the original 1905 Strand Hotel and reopened in 2015, the hotel occupies Swakopmund's historic Mole — a sea wall that shelters Namibia's most famous coastal town.
The Mole was built in 1899 by architect F.W. Ortloff, originally intended as a harbour wall; long-shore drift silted up the harbour within five years, but the small, protected beach it left behind — now Palm Beach — remains one of the best places to swim on this stretch of Atlantic coast. The Strand Hotel's 125 rooms and suites draw architecturally on that Namibian-German history, softened with contemporary design and a dramatic ocean-view atrium running the length of the building. Three sea-facing restaurants, a spa, gym and rooftop garden terrace make it Swakopmund's social hub as much as its finest address.

Experiences
Desert Meets Atlantic
Swakopmund sits precisely where the Namib Desert reaches the sea — few towns on Earth offer such a contrast within a single day trip.
Coast
Palm Beach & The Mole
Namibia’s Atlantic runs cold, but the Mole’s sheltered sandbar makes Palm Beach one of the few genuinely swimmable stretches.
Adventure
Dune 7 & Sandboarding
Namibia's tallest accessible dune lies a short drive from town, popular for sandboarding and quad biking.
Wildlife
Catamaran Cruises
Boat trips from nearby Walvis Bay bring close encounters with Cape fur seals, dolphins, and occasionally whales.
Heritage
The Old Railway Station
Swakopmund’s 1901 railway station is now a hotel and entertainment centre, one of several colonial-era landmarks in town.
Wellness
The Atlantic Spa
Crystal steam rooms, rain showers and a garden terrace with water features, tucked inside the hotel itself.
Desert
Living Desert Tours
Half-day excursions into the dunes track the Namib's small, remarkable desert-adapted creatures — geckos, chameleons and more.

Location
On Swakopmund’s Historic Mole

Swakopmund itself is a compact, walkable town — restaurants, galleries and the Swakopmund Museum are all within easy reach.
The Benguela Current keeps the Atlantic here cold year-round, but also draws in the marine life the coast is famous for.
Walvis Bay Airport is roughly a 45-minute drive, making The Strand a natural coastal stop on any Namibia circuit.
The hotel’s central, oceanfront position puts it within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the town’s craft markets.
