Overview
Six Houses on the Gracht
Rooms over the canal or the largest private garden in Amsterdam.
The hotel is six separate 17th-century mansions on the Herengracht, the grandest of the canals, knocked through into one building without pretending they were ever one. You can see the dividing lines between houses as you walk the corridors, and plaques name the families who lived in each. The grand staircase is by Daniel Marot, the architect who brought the Louis XIV style to the Netherlands. Rooms look either over the canal itself or inward over the courtyard, which happens to be the largest private garden in the city. Downstairs there is a Guerlain spa, an indoor pool, and a two-Michelin-starred dining room.
Canal or garden. Canal-facing rooms get the Herengracht and its bridges. Courtyard rooms get the largest private garden in Amsterdam, and silence.
