Touch down at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone. A Finders & Keepers Safaris representative greets you at arrivals and escorts you to your private guide transfer. The drive to the Protea Hotel by Marriott Gaborone Masa Square takes approximately twenty minutes through the city's wide boulevards and modern architecture. Check into your suite — spacious, elegantly appointed, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.
This evening is dedicated to relaxation after your international journey. Your safari guide and local representative join you in the hotel's rooftop lounge for a welcome briefing — maps spread on the table, stories of the Delta ahead, the mood of anticipation building. A welcome dinner is served at the hotel's signature restaurant, featuring Botswana cuisine with a modern touch. Before dinner, a complimentary welcome cocktail is served at the Masa Square wellness centre, where your spa therapist also notes your preferences for the 90-minute restorative massage scheduled for your return to Gaborone on Day 10.
After breakfast, your chauffeur transfers you to Gaborone Airport for a commercial flight to Maun — approximately ninety minutes over the flat expanse of the Kalahari Basin. At Maun, your private light aircraft charter pilot is waiting. The flight to &Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is an experience in itself — thirty minutes of low-level flying over the Delta's geometric channels, papyrus islands, and wandering elephant herds. The Delta from the air is a revelation: a vast fan of crystal water spreading across the ancient Kalahari sand, each channel a silver thread connecting islands of green.
Sandibe is one of Botswana's most celebrated lodges — recently rebuilt as an architectural masterpiece designed to resemble a giant pangolin curled among the forest trees. Arrive in time for lunch on the open deck overlooking the seasonal floodplain. Your first game drive departs at 4:00 PM as the afternoon cools — elephant herds emerging from the thicket, the light softening to gold. A sundowner on the floodplain, the Delta's water channels reflecting the orange sky. Return to the lodge for a bonfire dinner under a sky so dark the Milky Way is visible from edge to edge.
Wake at 4:30 AM. Coffee is delivered to your suite. Transfer to the balloon launch site as the sky shifts from black to deep indigo. The balloon lifts silently above the Delta just as the first light catches the water channels below. For one hour you drift over the floodplains — elephant herds moving in single file, hippos returning to the deep channels, the geometric patterns of the Delta's waterways laid out below like a living map. After landing, a champagne bush breakfast is served on the floodplain: white linen, crystal glasses, a full breakfast prepared over an open fire in the middle of the wilderness.
Mid-morning, board a private helicopter for a flight to Tsodilo Hills — Botswana's only UNESCO World Heritage Site, rising from the flat savannah like a whale breaching. Over 4,500 rock paintings decorate the cave walls, some over 20,000 years old, created by the San people who revered this landscape as the place of creation. Your guide leads a walking tour through the hills before a picnic lunch is served in the shade of the ancient rocks. Return to Sandibe in the late afternoon. A bonfire dinner is laid out on the floodplain.
After breakfast, embark on a motorised boat safari through the deep channels of the Delta's permanent waterways. The boat glides silently through papyrus beds, past pods of hippos with only eyes and nostrils above the surface, alongside African fish eagles perched on dead trees. Your guide explains the Delta's extraordinary hydrology — how water from the Angolan highlands travels 1,200 kilometres before fanning across this corner of the Kalahari. Red lechwe bound through the shallows; a sitatunga watches from the reeds.
Return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta in the afternoon heat. At 4:00 PM, a game drive across the Delta's islands focuses on predators — lions along the floodplain edges, leopards in the riverine forest, and if fortune allows, the elusive African wild dog hunting in coordinated silence. A sundowner as the sky turns orange over the channels. Return to the lodge for a bonfire dinner under the stars.
After breakfast, a short fifteen-minute scenic flight takes you from Sandibe to Camp Okuti in the Moremi Game Reserve — offering one final aerial view of the Delta's channels before descending into Moremi's mopane forest and riverine woodland. Moremi is the eastern extension of the Okavango Delta and one of Africa's most biologically diverse reserves. Camp Okuti is a Ker & Downey property — intimate, eco-sensitive, designed to blend into the forest canopy.
Arrive for lunch on the open deck overlooking the floodplain. Your first Moremi game drive departs at 4:00 PM, the reserve famous for its leopard sightings in the riverine forest and its resident wild dog pack — one of the most successful hunting packs in Botswana. A sundowner on the floodplain. Return to camp for a bonfire dinner, the Southern Cross bright above you.
After breakfast, embark on a guided walking safari with your armed ranger through Moremi's dry islands. The experience of being on foot in the bush — tracking animals by footprint, reading the behaviour of birds, smelling the wild sage crushed underfoot — transforms your relationship with the landscape entirely. Your guide explains how the seasonal floodplains shift each year, how mopane forest provides year-round food for elephant, and how leopards use the riverine thickets as both hunting ground and refuge. The pace is slow. The silence is profound.
Return to camp for lunch and rest through the midday heat. At 4:00 PM, a motorised boat safari through Moremi's permanent waterways — the boat navigating narrow channels past papyrus islands and lily-covered lagoons. Hippos in the deeper sections. Crocodiles on the banks. African fish eagles calling from the trees. Kingfishers diving. A sundowner on the water as the sun sets behind the papyrus beds. Return to camp for a bonfire dinner.
After breakfast, board a light aircraft charter to Savute Safari Lodge in the Chobe Reserve — approximately one hour crossing the northern Delta and the dry savannah of Chobe. The flight reveals the transition from water to land: lush riverine forests giving way to baobab-studded plains and the dry grasslands of the Chobe region. Savute is famous for its elephants — the area supports one of the largest elephant populations in Africa, and during the dry season, hundreds gather along the Savute Channel daily.
Arrive in time for lunch with uninterrupted views across the floodplain from the lodge deck. Your first Savute game drive departs at 4:00 PM — elephant herds moving along the channel, their red dust coating their skin, lions hunting the floodplain edges, hyenas patrolling the periphery. A sundowner on the channel bank as the elephants silhouette against the setting sun. Return to the lodge for a bonfire dinner.
After an early breakfast, board a cross-border charter flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe — approximately one hour, the Zambezi River visible below, the spray of the falls rising hundreds of metres before the falls themselves come into view. Upon arrival, your Zimbabwean guide escorts you to Victoria Falls National Park. The falls — known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, "The Smoke That Thunders" — are at 1,708 metres wide and 108 metres high the largest curtain of falling water on earth and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Your guide leads you along the footpaths on the Zimbabwean side, each viewpoint revealing a different face of the falls — the Devil's Cataract, Main Falls, Rainbow Falls, the Eastern Cataract. The roar is constant. The ground vibrates. Rainbows form and dissolve in the spray. Lunch is served at the historic Victoria Falls Hotel — a colonial landmark whose terrace looks toward the gorge. The afternoon is yours to explore the craft markets or take tea at the hotel before your charter flight returns you to Savute in time for a sundowner and bonfire dinner at the lodge.
Today belongs entirely to the elephants of Savute. After breakfast, embark on a full morning game drive along the Savute Channel — the dry season concentrating wildlife along the remaining water in extraordinary numbers. Your guide explains the Channel's unusual history: a river that flows and dries over decades, driven not by rainfall but by tectonic activity beneath the Kalahari. The Channel's most recent flow began in 2008, and the wildlife concentration it has created since is among the most spectacular in Africa.
Return to the lodge for lunch and a long siesta. At 4:00 PM, a final Savute game drive focuses on predators — lions hunting along the channel, leopards in the riverine thickets, hyenas preparing for their nocturnal patrols. A farewell sundowner on the channel bank — champagne and canapés as the sun sets over the African bush. Return to the lodge for a final bonfire dinner under the stars.
After breakfast, board your light aircraft charter to Maun, then connect to a commercial flight back to Gaborone — offering one final aerial view of the Delta's channels before the city appears below. Upon arrival, your private guide transfers you to the Protea Hotel by Marriott Gaborone Masa Square.
This afternoon, your pre-arranged 90-minute full-body restorative massage awaits at the Masa Square wellness centre. The therapist uses locally sourced Botswana ingredients — shea butter, marula oil, and essential oils — to soothe muscles that have spent ten days bouncing across the African bush. It is the perfect close to the journey. A farewell dinner at the hotel's rooftop restaurant brings the safari to a fitting end — the city lights spread below, your guide joining you one last time to celebrate what you have seen and experienced.
Your airport transfer is arranged to align precisely with your international departure time — whether your flight leaves late that evening, in the early hours, or the following morning. There is no rush. You leave Botswana when it is time to leave.
