There are few places on Earth where wilderness still feels truly untamed. Botswana is one of them. Widely regarded as Africa's premier luxury safari destination, Botswana has built its reputation not through mass tourism, but through exclusivity, conservation, and some of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences on the continent. Vast landscapes, exceptional guiding, low visitor numbers, and world-class camps combine to create a safari experience that feels intimate, authentic, and profoundly connected to nature.
At the heart of Botswana lies the legendary Okavango Delta — one of the world's largest inland deltas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, crystal-clear channels wind through islands of palm trees and floodplains teeming with wildlife. Exploring the Delta by traditional mokoro canoe offers a perspective unlike anywhere else in Africa, where elephants wade through shallow waters, lions stalk reed-lined channels, and fish eagles call overhead. To the north, Chobe National Park is home to one of the largest concentrations of elephants on Earth, with sunset cruises along the Chobe River revealing hippos, crocodiles, buffalo and an abundance of birdlife against golden African skies.
Further south lie the Makgadikgadi Pans, one of the largest salt pan systems in the world — vast, surreal and seemingly endless. For those seeking true remoteness, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve delivers an unforgettable wilderness experience with open grasslands stretching to the horizon and black-maned Kalahari lions roaming freely. At Finders & Keepers Safaris, we believe Botswana represents safari at its most refined. Whether gliding silently through the Okavango Delta, witnessing elephants along the Chobe River, exploring the endless Makgadikgadi Pans, or tracking predators across the Kalahari, every journey is designed to immerse you in one of Africa's last great wildernesses — a place that reminds us what the world once was: wild, untamed, and endlessly inspiring.
This is Botswana's other face — not water and floodplains, but salt and sand, an ancient sky and absolute silence. Over ten days, this circuit moves through the arid heart of southern Africa: the world's largest salt pans at Makgadikgadi, the sacred baobabs of Kubu Island rising from the pan floor, and five nights deep in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve — one of the largest and most remote protected areas on earth. Designed for travellers who have seen Africa's wildlife and now seek its deeper solitude and culture.

Tau Pan holds a distinction no other property in Botswana can claim: it is the first, and still the only, permanent safari camp inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve — 52,800 square kilometres of semi-arid grassland and fossilised river valleys, the largest game reserve in Africa. Nine eco-adapted tents sit on raised decks along the ridge of an ancient sand dune, an elevated position that is a genuine rarity in a country as flat as Botswana, looking out over the pan and waterhole below.
The name is Setswana for lion, and it was earned. A resident pride of black-maned Kalahari lions is known to walk straight through camp, with a particular fondness for the family tent. Days move at the pace of the desert itself: game drives across Deception Valley and the Sunday, Piper and Passarge pans, and walks with San trackers whose ancestors have read these sands for millennia. Nights belong to the sky — with no light pollution for hundreds of kilometres, and a raised Sky Bed platform for those who want to sleep beneath the Milky Way rather than merely look at it.
The camp runs entirely on solar power, treats and returns its own water, and carries no Wi-Fi or mobile signal at all — a decision that keeps the Kalahari’s isolation genuinely intact. It is owned by the Kwando community and staffed almost entirely by Botswana citizens.
