Your Tanzanian adventure begins the moment your aircraft touches down at Julius Nyerere International Airport. A Finders & Keepers Safaris representative greets you in the arrivals hall — no searching for signs, no waiting in long queues. You are escorted through VIP formalities and into a waiting luxury transfer vehicle for the journey to the Element by Marriott Hotel.
For arrivals between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, a complimentary private city tour awaits — the National Museum of Tanzania, the Village Museum, the Kivukoni Fish Market, the Askari Monument and St. Joseph's Cathedral. As evening approaches, a welcome dinner celebrates Tanzanian cuisine. Your guide joins you to brief you on the extraordinary days ahead. Tomorrow, you fly into the wild.
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport for your private charter flight to the Serengeti (approximately 2 hours). From the air, wildebeest, zebra and elephant herds are already visible across the landscape below.
On landing at the Mwiba airstrip, your guide is waiting. The drive to Mwiba Lodge — stone walls, thatched roofs and open-air living spaces growing from the earth on a rocky escarpment — becomes your first game drive: massive elephant bulls, giraffes at the acacia canopy, a pride of lions on a kopje. Your vast suite has a private plunge pool, floor-to-ceiling glass walls and views across the concession. A 4 PM game drive ends with a sundowner as the sky turns violet. A lion roars somewhere in the dark as the bonfire is lit.
A 6 AM dawn drive across 125,000 acres with no other vehicles, no other people. Mwiba's concession is entirely yours. Within the first hour, fifteen lions on a rocky kopje — lionesses grooming, cubs tumbling, dark-maned males watching the plains below. Your guide knows each individual by name, their histories and relationships.
A full bush breakfast is prepared on white linen beneath an acacia tree as zebra graze nearby. After a lodge siesta and plunge pool afternoon, the evening drive finds a female leopard draped across a branch above a wedged impala carcass — twenty uninterrupted minutes with no other vehicles in sight. Sundowner, then a bonfire dinner. Throughout the day, your guide photographs you in moments of pure, unguarded joy.
Today you experience the Serengeti from an entirely different perspective — on foot. Accompanied by an armed ranger and your guide, you set out across the concession. The sounds, smells and textures of the bush are amplified. Your guide reads the tracks: an elephant passed here last night. A lion rested under this tree. A leopard dragged its kill across this path.
He points out medicinal plants used by local communities and explains the relationship between trees, soil, water and the animals that depend on them. Two hours of walking, stopping often to observe and absorb — humbling, vulnerable, and absolutely unforgettable. A bush breakfast is served under a large acacia. Afternoon game drive, sundowner and bonfire dinner close the day.
5:30 AM. The concession's eastern boundary reveals a mother cheetah with two cubs on a rocky outcrop — playful, tumbling, chasing in circles while the mother watches with patience. After the cheetahs, deeper into the concession's remote corners: a pride of lions in the shade of a baobab, a herd of buffalo ancient and watchful, a rare pair of rhinos, a large python coiled in the branches of a fig tree, a pack of wild dogs resting in the heat of the day.
A bush breakfast is served in the shade of an acacia. A gourmet picnic lunch at a river overlook. The afternoon continues with further exploration — sundowner as elephant families gather at the river to drink. Bonfire dinner on the main deck.
5:30 AM. Your guide asks if there is anything you wish to see again — a favourite waterhole, the kopje where the leopard rested, the river where the elephants gather. You return to the river: hundreds of elephants lining the banks, drinking, bathing, playing. Hippos grunt in the shallows. Crocodiles bask on the sandbanks.
A final bush breakfast under the acacia, then a morning game drive exploring more remote corners. After the lodge siesta and a final afternoon drive, your guide sets up a farewell sundowner overlooking the river as hundreds of elephants stretch to the horizon. A special farewell dinner at Mwiba — the chef's menu, stories shared around the bonfire.
After breakfast, farewell to Mwiba Lodge and a charter flight to the central Serengeti (approximately 45 minutes). The private concession gives way to the vast open plains of Serengeti National Park — from above, the scale of the ecosystem becomes fully apparent.
Serengeti Explorer Elewana sits in the heart of the central Serengeti, close to the Seronera River which attracts wildlife year-round. Classic tented camp atmosphere — spacious tents, en-suite bathrooms, private verandas evoking the golden age of safari. A 4 PM game drive in the Seronera area finds a female leopard in an acacia tree, her tail hanging lazily over the branch. Sundowner and camp bonfire dinner.
5:30 AM. The Simba Kopjes — a pride of lions at rest on the rocks, lionesses grooming, cubs playing, males watching the plains below. Your guide has decades of experience tracking the central Serengeti's predators and knows these lions well. The drive explores open grasslands, acacia woodland, riverine forest and granite kopjes.
Bush breakfast under an acacia. After the lodge siesta, the afternoon drive positions you at a Seronera River viewpoint as elephant, zebra and wildebeest gather to drink. Sundowner, then dinner and a campfire in the fire pit.
5:30 AM. Reports of a mother cheetah with three cubs near the Gol Kopjes — within an hour, you find them on a rocky outcrop, the cubs tumbling and chasing in the morning light. The guide drives off the main tracks, following paths only the rangers know, exploring the central Serengeti's most remote corners.
A bush breakfast is served under an acacia. A gourmet picnic lunch at a plains viewpoint. The afternoon continues across diverse habitats — the Seronera River at golden hour as a sundowner is prepared. Bonfire and camp dinner.
4:00 AM. The balloon inflates in darkness above the Serengeti plains. You rise above the Seronera River, watching the plains turn gold then amber as the sun breaks the horizon. An hour of silence above one of Earth's greatest wildlife ecosystems. A champagne bush breakfast on white linen as the morning breeze lifts the tablecloth.
A traditional Maasai boma visit follows — elders welcome you with songs, warriors demonstrate the adumu jumping dance, women explain the symbolism of their beadwork: red for bravery, white for purity, blue for the sky and water. Chai brewed over an open fire, fresh ugali, roasted nyama and mursik shared under an acacia. A final afternoon game drive closes with a farewell sundowner at the Seronera River as the sky turns violet. A special farewell dinner and bonfire — your guide shares the photographs he has captured of your journey.
After breakfast, farewell to Serengeti Explorer Elewana and a charter flight back to Dar es Salaam (approximately 2 hours). The golden Serengeti plains give way to the Rift Valley hills, then to the coast. A Finders & Keepers Safaris representative transfers you to the Element by Marriott Hotel, where a complimentary spa session awaits: full body massage, aromatherapy, deep tissue treatment, steam room and sauna.
The remainder of the day is unscheduled. A farewell dinner celebrates the completion of your Serengeti journey. From this night onward, the Element by Marriott becomes your home for as long as you wish — you choose your departure date and time, and Finders & Keepers Safaris arranges your airport transfer accordingly. There is no rush. No pressure. No early morning alarm. You leave when you are ready.
We are here for that. Every Finders & Keepers Safaris itinerary is a starting point, not a fixed departure — the pace, the lodges, the length, the dates and the party travelling can all be reshaped around you.
