Overview
There is an argument for the road that flying over the same ground will never quite make. When you travel by road, you see the country in between the highlights — the terrain changing under the wheels, the villages, the light shifting over hours rather than arriving at it fresh from an airstrip.
Being inside the jeep as it works its way across the wild — dust rising, the engine dropping low over rough ground, your guide reading tracks you would never have noticed on your own — is, for a lot of travellers, the whole point of a safari rather than simply how you get to one. It is the part that turns a wildlife holiday into something closer to an expedition.
Noteworthy Details
Every guest is given a Maasai blanket for the journey — warmth on the cool early drives, and something to bring home afterward.
The route is built around proper stopovers, not just fuel and bathroom breaks — viewpoints, small towns, places worth the extra ten minutes.
Every jeep carries a stocked cooler box, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, so the road between stops is as considered as the stops themselves.
Wi-Fi runs in the vehicle throughout, if you need to stay reachable or simply want to share where you are as you go.
Your driver-guide also carries a camera and photographs the journey as it happens — from the first morning, through every stopover, into the game drives, until the safari is done.
Those photos are edited and sent to you by email once your safari is complete.
Circuits
Several of our circuits are built specifically to be driven rather than flown — routes where the stopovers along the way are as much the point as the camps at either end, and where some of those stopovers simply are not reachable any other way. If a circuit is not listed here, tell us where you want to go and we will build the road version of it.
Quite often, a safari that starts by air still finishes on the road — a fly-in to the first camp, followed by a road transfer out, because a stop further along is only reachable by vehicle. Where that is the case, we say so plainly when we quote your itinerary.
Tell us the circuit you have in mind, or let us build one around the stopovers you do not want to miss.
