Rwanda offers one of the most profound wildlife experiences on Earth. Hidden within the mist-covered slopes of Volcanoes National Park lives one of the world's last remaining populations of mountain gorillas. Spending time with these gentle giants is more than a wildlife encounter — it is an emotional experience that remains with travelers for a lifetime.
Beyond gorilla trekking, Rwanda reveals a country of remarkable beauty. Rolling green hills stretch endlessly across the landscape, earning it the nickname 'The Land of a Thousand Hills'. Nyungwe Forest offers chimpanzee tracking and canopy walks through ancient rainforest, while Akagera National Park has emerged as one of Africa's most inspiring conservation success stories, now home once again to the Big Five.
At Finders & Keepers Safaris, we believe Rwanda combines luxury, conservation, and meaningful travel in a way few destinations can match. From a single, life-changing hour with mountain gorillas to canopy walks above Nyungwe's ancient forest and Big Five game drives across Akagera's restored plains, every journey here is designed to leave you not only inspired by the landscapes, but moved by the story of recovery written into every hill.
A cross-border masterpiece combining the absolute finest highlights of both Kenya and Rwanda. Guests are dropped directly into Kenya's legendary Maasai Mara for an intensive 4-day big-game safari before flying across the border to Rwanda for the life-changing mountain gorilla encounter in the misty Virunga volcanoes. They experience private fly-in safaris tracking the Big Five, a sunrise hot-air balloon over the Mara River, two nights in Kigali exploring its memorial and arts scene, and then five nights at Bisate Lodge — the most celebrated luxury property in Rwanda — for gorilla trekking, Golden Monkey tracking, and the Intore warrior dance. The journey concludes back in Nairobi at the JW Marriott.

Gisakura, Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda
Nyungwe National Park protects 1,019 square kilometres of montane rainforest, one of the oldest and largest in Africa, and home to roughly 20 per cent of the continent’s primate species — chimpanzees, Ruwenzori colobus, owl-faced monkeys — alongside orchids, butterflies and several hundred bird species.
One&Only Nyungwe House sits on a hillside inside the neighbouring Gisakura tea estate, still worked, with 22 suites and villas looking out over the plantation towards the forested mountains beyond. Each opens through floor-to-ceiling glass onto a private terrace, with a log-burning fireplace for the cool, misty highland evenings and a deep soaking tub that earns its keep after a day’s trekking.
Chimpanzee trekking is the signature, with permits arranged through African Parks and habituated groups tracked deep into the forest by local guides. Beyond it: colobus troops that can number in the hundreds, a suspended canopy walkway across the treetops, tea picking and tasting on the estate itself, and Imigongo art workshops in the nearby village of Banda. A helipad connects the lodge to Kigali in around 35 minutes.
