Couples Escapes

Somewhere with
nothing to organise.

Two people, a private vehicle, and a week where the only decision is what time to get up. Whether you are marking something or simply leaving, we build it around the two of you.

Overview

The case for going away, just the two of you.

Most couples do not need a bigger holiday. They need an emptier one.

Couples travel differently from families and differently from friends. The pace is slower, the days are less structured, and the value is in the hours where nothing is scheduled — the long breakfast, the afternoon that goes nowhere, the drive that stops because you both wanted to sit and watch something.

That is easy to say and surprisingly hard to book. Most itineraries are built to justify their price by filling the days, which is exactly the wrong instinct for two people who came away to stop moving. We build the opposite: fewer camps, longer stays, and deliberate gaps.

A private vehicle and guide matter more here than on any other kind of journey. Sharing a vehicle means sharing the schedule, and the whole point is that yours is your own. On our tailor-made journeys that is standard rather than an upgrade.

Everything on this page is arranged ahead of you. Proposals, anniversaries, a particular dinner in a particular place — the camp is briefed, the timing is confirmed and the details are settled before you land, so that on the day nothing needs organising by either of you.

Bush first, water afterwards

The shape that works best for two people is a safari followed by a coast — a week of early mornings while you still want them, then a week where the alarm goes off for nothing at all.

Doing it the other way round rarely works. Nobody who has spent five days doing nothing on a beach genuinely wants a 5:30 wake-up call, and the safari suffers for it.

A Private Vehicle, Always

Your own guide and vehicle on tailor-made journeys, so the day runs to your pace and stops when you want it to.

Fewer Moves, Longer Stays

Two or three camps rather than five. Unpacking once is worth more than seeing one more place.

Arranged In Advance

Anything you would like set up — a dinner, a flight, a surprise — is confirmed with the camp before you arrive.

Rooms Chosen Deliberately

Private decks, plunge pools, and the quiet end of camp. We ask for specific rooms by number where it matters.

Discretion

If something is meant to be a surprise, only one of you is copied on the correspondence.

No Occasion Required

Plenty of our couples journeys mark nothing at all. That is a perfectly good reason to travel.

Couple Themes

Four reasons couples travel with us.

Each of these is arranged ahead of your arrival and tailored to the two of you. Tell us which one applies — and if it is a surprise, tell us that too, and we will keep it one.

Proposals

One of you plans it with us months ahead. The other has no idea until it happens.

A proposal has one requirement above all others: it has to work first time, without visible logistics. That means everything is settled weeks in advance and nothing depends on a conversation held on the day.

We plan it entirely with one of you. The camp is briefed, the location is chosen and checked, the timing is set around the light, and a fallback is agreed in case the weather moves. Photography can be arranged discreetly so you have the moment itself rather than a re-enactment afterwards.

We are also careful about the correspondence. Confirmations go to one address only, the invoice is worded neutrally, and nobody at the camp will mention it in front of the wrong person.

  • Planned with one of you, months ahead, in complete confidence
  • Location scouted and timed to the light, with a weather fallback agreed
  • Camp team briefed in advance so nothing is arranged in front of you
  • Discreet photography, and champagne where it will not give the game away
  • Correspondence and invoicing handled so the surprise survives the booking

February

Valentine’s

A week in February when the bush is green, the camps are quiet and the rates are at their kindest.

February is one of the better-kept secrets in the safari calendar. It sits in the green season across much of East and Southern Africa, which means fewer vehicles, dramatic light, newborn game everywhere and lodges that are considerably more generous than they are in August.

It is also when free-night offers are most likely, so a February week frequently costs less than the same week later in the year while being materially quieter.

For the night itself we arrange whatever suits you — a private dinner set up away from camp, a bush breakfast the following morning, or simply a table somewhere with a view and nobody else at it.

  • Green season — quieter camps, better light and softer rates
  • Free-night offers most likely in this window
  • Private dinners, bush breakfasts or a table set apart from the main room
  • Arranged with the camp beforehand rather than requested on arrival

Marking Time

Anniversary

Whether it is the first or the fortieth, the arrangements are made before you arrive.

Anniversaries suit safari particularly well, because the occasion does not need entertaining. The day provides its own event, and what you want from us is that the details are handled quietly rather than performed at you.

We confirm the date with every property on the itinerary so it is known wherever you happen to be, and arrange whatever you have asked for on the day itself — a private dinner, a flight at dawn, a room upgraded where the camp can, or nothing at all beyond a note and a bottle.

For significant years we tend to suggest returning to somewhere that already means something, or going somewhere neither of you has been. Both work; the middle ground rarely does.

  • The date confirmed with every property on the route, not just one
  • Private dining, balloon flights or a dawn drive arranged in advance
  • Room upgrades and quiet touches requested on your behalf
  • As understated as you want — some couples want nothing marked at all

No Occasion

Couple Getaway

Nothing to celebrate. Just two people, away, with the diary cleared.

The most common couples journey we build marks nothing whatsoever. Two people found a fortnight, decided to spend it together somewhere else, and want the week to be genuinely empty rather than efficiently packed.

These are the journeys where our advice is most often to do less. Three camps instead of five. Six nights on the coast instead of four. A private vehicle so that a good sighting can last an hour if you want it to.

The classic shape is safari first and coast afterwards, and it is classic because it works — the early starts while you still have the appetite for them, then somewhere warm where the only fixed point in the day is dinner.

  • Fewer camps, longer stays, and deliberate gaps in the itinerary
  • Private vehicle and guide throughout, so the pace is yours
  • Safari first, coast second — in that order, for good reason
  • Priced for two, with no single supplements or shared departures

Every couples journey is quoted for two and built around your dates, pace and the occasion. Anything arranged on your behalf is confirmed with the property in writing before you travel.

Where To Stay

Rooms worth staying in during the day.

On a couples journey the room matters more than on any other kind, because you will actually be in it between the drives. These are properties where the private deck, the plunge pool and the quiet are real rather than advertised.

If it is a surprise, say so at the first message and everything after that is handled with one of you only.

Tell us the occasion

Or tell us there isn’t one. Both change what we suggest, and neither is a wrong answer.
